You may have seen our viral Social Media post about donating a birthday cake for a little girl whose family were experiencing financial challenges due to the cost of living crisis, The power of Social Media worked, & that post blew up massively for the right reasons! We have received so much lovely & positive feedback as well as hundreds of messages about this which has lead us to make a decision to continue with this scheme.
Anyone that knows our mum will know that she cannot bear to see a child go without, especially on their birthday. For those that don't know our little family, our mum raised all of us as a single parent & she understands the struggle of juggling finances with small children. Due to the cost of living hitting finances hard, a birthday cake is not always top of the list when people are having to choose between heating & eating. So until such time as finances within the UK improve, the Pay What You Can Afford scheme run by THAT Cake Lady! is here to stay.
If there is anyone out there that is going without food so their children can have meals please, please, please make contact with me, we produce savoury items as well as sweet treats & would always help local families out in this situation, Lucy has experienced this herself & will always ensure that a parcel of bakes can be delivered discreetly and confidentially. We also provide items to our local foodbanks & community larders.
HOW IT WORKS
To enquire about this scheme please either send a request via our 'Contact Us' form, or send us an email with the child's age, their birthday, what they like, the cake flavour, and whether there are any allergies or dietary requirements, (we cater for allergies and specific dietary needs). The more notice that you can give the better, but here at THAT cake lady Devon, we can make miracles happen overnight too! Anyone that has this need please know that this will be dealt with sensitively, confidentially & there will be no judgment & no questions asked except for “What does your child like?” & “How many does it need to serve?”, we will do the rest to make sure that your child has a cake for their special day, complete with candles to blow out!
This scheme is available to local residents due to travel purposes however, if you live further afield and need support with a child's birthday treat, we can offer our yummy brownie trays and cookie pies that can be delivered via courier service.
WHAT IF I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY ANYTHING?
We recognise that at present, there will be some that cannot afford to make a contribution towards a cake or other birthday bake, we can work with this too so please do not think you will be excluded from this offer in these circumstances. drop us an email or text. or use the contact us form below to enquire.
HOW CAN I OR MY COMPANY HELP?
The feedback we have had for this has been mind blowing, so many lovely people have contacted us asking if they can send some money to help cover the cost of these cakes, or if they can donate ingredients, cake decorations or even gifts for the children, many have also asked if there is anything they can do to help our elderly community who are having to choose between heating & eating at this financially challenging time. We wholeheartedly appreciate every single person & business who have reached out offering their help & support for this amazing scheme, & due to the massive amount of queries received, we have decided to open up 2 Donation Funds, the 'Children's Birthday cake offer" for subsidised cakes for children's birthdays and a ‘Pay it forwards Fund’ to help support our wider community.
